We got there on Friday to find that the
hotel was taking in bus loads of locals.
They got the best room with
views of the beach in # 800 building, staying thru Sunday.I talked with several
& they told me how discounted their stay was - I was shocked. We paid twice
as much as them and we stayed in a room off to the side with no beach view at
all .We asked to be upgraded but they said they had no room yet they continued
to come through late Friday getting the best beach front rooms.I complained but
it did not good.
The first day when we got in line to be served- they
were ALWAYS waited on first. It happened in the bar, the beach grill and the
main restaurant. It did not happen in the Spiciality restuarants. I stood in
line for 15 minutes & I was the only one that was not of their nationality
& was not waited on at all. They came & went and I was ignored. I asked
to be waited on & was told that I had to get behind the ones that just
walked up.
I left in tears- never waited on.I went to the manager but
it continued to happen until they left on Sunday. It was an awful experiance to
be discriminated againt like that.We purchased the vacation because my husband
is a Scuba Diver & it said that 6 days of scuba diving was included. My
husband went on the first trip & he went back the 2nd day and they went to
the exact same place and saw the exactsame thing. When he questioned them about
it, they said the 6 days includes the same dive every day. No divers want to
dive the same exact place 6 days in a row. We asked if they could go to another
place on site like another part of the reef or the car wrecks & was told
no..
So my husbad booked his scuba diving with the Marriot Hotel &
another dive shop down the street. We wasted our money on diving at Breezes
because he forfited the other 4 dives that we paid for with the package. We
paid for what they advertise on their site. If it is 6 days of diving only at
the same exact place every day- they shopuld state that on their site.We paid
to be humiliated and discriminated against
Awful waste of money and it
was expensive. The food was good but we never got utinsels, water or drinks in
the main restuarant because they were too busy waiting on all the locals and
ignoring everyone else. We had to go and get everything ourselves .The Japanese
restuarant was good as well. Other than that it was an awful experiance and we
will never go there again and certainly would not recommend
it.
Editors Note: When we solicit
trip reports we don't throw out the negative ones... we post them all. This
visitor to Breezes Curacao was not one of our clients, but we removed their
identity and forwarded a copy to SuperClubs management anyway. We hope the next
report we receive on this resort indicates some
improvement. |

Bottom-line: Good resort -- very family
friendly. (So family friendly you may see more small children and teens than
you might expect and therefore perhaps Breezes Curacao is not the best
recommendation for CastAway clients -- but, we had a good time). Fair value for
the cost.
TRIP REPORT
We (two married couples) arrived on
Friday 6 January and departed Monday 16 January (11 days / 10 nights). Our
reservations were for two oceanfront connecting rooms. Although we never were
placed in connecting rooms, our rooms were nice.
Check-in -- hectic,
but well handled by the small staff. LESSON LEARNED FROM OBSERVING OTHERS:
Americans with bad attitudes / travel fatigue can be very hard to deal with as
customers......Check-in time on a sold-out weekend is not the best time to ask
for a room change...and "asking" is much more effective than "demanding." Most
likely the person you are inclined to shout at (a) is not the person who caused
whatever you are unhappy about and (b) is the person who wants to help you --
so give them a chance.
Rooms -- all rooms we had were fine -- we
requested to be moved from the ground floor to the same upper-level as our
friends (we had requested connecting rooms in our reservations). Even though
the resort was "sold out" on Friday, when we spoke to the staff Friday evening
(about two hours after the check-in rush) they said they would try to move us
quickly...by Saturday afternoon, we were moved -- and happy!
The Ocean
Front rooms are very large -- and bright. There is no clock in the rooms (a
plus for us) and no refrigerator (not needed for our location). Fridge can be
rented for $5/day. The drinking water / ice is fine to use --- no one suffered
from "traveler's stomach problems." The resort sells bottled water at the
sundries shop.
Swimming -- the ocean was incredible for snorkeling and
diving. The pools are "fresh water" and also good for swimming. PROBLEM: the
"Jacuzzi/hot-tub" end of the main pool was not heated.
Scuba Diving --
the resort dive shop is good. Off the resort about 1/2 mile towards town is a
dive shop called "Atlantis" -- the prices on some services is lower than the
resort -- our friends liked the service and people at Atlantis. The diving in
Curacao may be the best in the Caribbean.
Church: There are a Catholic
and Anglican (Episcopal) Churches within 1 mile / 20 minute walk for Sunday
services.
Staff: Motivated to help you if you ask. If you don't ask,
well -- you should. The service staff associated with the restaurants and
buffet are very attentive. THE CIRCUS Staff is exceptional.
Food: Good
food at all meals -- and all three restaurants and the Buffet (Jimmy's). Wine:
POOR -- too bad...we like wine from Chile -- but the vintages they have at
Breezes were poor.
Other Drinks: EXCELLENT -- try "Sex on the Beach"
or a "Miami Vice" for a great treat.
SPA: Excellent. Exceptional
massage therapists. 50 minute massage / $60 -- as everywhere else on the
resort, tipping is actively discouraged.
Beach - just large enough for
the size of the resort. A bit rocky / coral in composition -- flip flops /
water shoes are a plus but not mandatory. There is a designated section of the
beach for "topless swimming and sunning" -- our group found it more comfortable
(and a little quieter) than the rest of the beach. The beach is most crowded on
Saturday (all day) and Sunday afternoon. The resort does sell "day-passes" --
but except when the Resort is "sold-out," the "day-pass" people did not really
cause appreciable crowding or other service delays at the bar and grill.
Entertainment: A few nights the entertainment was excellent (be sure
to catch "Sax Man" at Jimmy's). A few of the bands were good. They were all
loud -- and music continues until midnight most nights. Karaoke talent does not
improve with additional alcohol consumption.
Score Breezes a solid
3-stars / B+/A-
