We visited Desert Shadows on a day pass
while we were visiting family in the Palm Springs area. We chose a very warm
day to spend at this first class resort. Our short experience was wonderful.
All of the staff we were in contact with were very pleasant and made our visit
very comfortable. When we first arrived we were surprised that the resort was
in the center of town, actually at the intersection of two busy streets. We had
phoned in advance to make reservation for the day visit.
Upon arrival
at the reception desk our fee was $40.00 for the two of us. We were given a
tour of the well-manicured grounds. Once inside the resort area we had no idea
that we in the center of Palm Springs. We wasted no time in changing into our
birthday suits and finding lounge chairs near the pool to relax in the sun. We
purchase beers at $ 4.00 a piece and had a very modestly priced lunch. The
other visitors at the main pool were pleasant.
We would recommend this
resort to anyone and we will return. It was very "laid back" and in no way,
other than the nudity, compares to our visit to Hedonism 3. This is a very
quite resort. At the main pool there were approximately 35 persons, only a few
singles were present. At the other two pools there were approximately 15 to 20
person each. Our trip last summer to Hedonism 3 was an all-inclusive 8-day
vacation to "twist off" and party. Desert Shadows in my opinion is a resort for
quiet au natural relaxation. Very nice!! |

The Terra Cotta Inn is a fabulous place.
Tom and Mary Clare are gracious hosts. This was our first time visting a
clothing optional resort so we didn't know what to expect. Tom, Mary Clare and
their staff gave us a warm welcome. They introduced us to several other guest
and that helped us feel more relaxed and comfortable this being our first au
natural experience. The massages and the afternoon refreshments are a nice
touch. Tom is great with giving you tips on places to go in the palm springs
area and we found that his restaurant reccomendations were right on the money.
The only thing we didn't like was our last day, leaving and having to say good
bye. This was the most relaxing vacation my wife and I have ever had and we
will be back. |

My wife and I visited Terra Cotta in Palm
Springs recently. What a great spot. The owners could not have been more
accommodating. The guests were very nice. The grounds are very well kept and
the facilities (pool, hot tub and rooms) perfect. It was our first time there
and we are planning a return in June. The property is so close to the center of
town (shops, theaters and restaurants) yet far enough away to be quiet and out
of the way. I highly recommend this resort. |

Outstanding service and Exceptional grounds
greeted us at the Desert Shadows Inn and Resort. I have visited a number of
other places and this is the best. My wife and I were extremely happy we
visited this place and plan on going almost every weekend that we can. Everyone
there was so friendly and considerate. They really know the meaning of the word
service. We would recommend this resort to anyone who wants a relaxing vacation
in Palm Springs. |

We just got back from our second trip to
Desert Shadows in Palm Springs in two years ! This visit was better than the
first ! Desert Shadows, in my opinion, is the best Naturist resort in the US
offering great accomodations , excellent meals and great service to its
customers. It is not a clothing optional resort full nudity is allowed in all
parts of the resort. Its a great place to go to with friends.
Desert
Shadows has three distinct pool areas, and has its largest number of guests on
the weekends. Both day guests and overnight guests are welcome. In the time
between our two trips 1997 and now , occupancy has risen sharply -- and many
are repeat visitors. Accomodations range from rooms to complete villas. They
are just ready to open 21 new villa accomodations . The furniture was being put
in while we were there. Right in the heart of Palm Springs, it offers its
guests ready access to the towns of Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert
--- all great places to visit with plenty of Golf and Shopping and great
restaurants.
About twenty minutes away is a teriffic OUTLET Shopping
mall -- and there are gambling casinos in Palm Springs. While we were there in
early October the temperature averaged between 90 degrees F and 103 degrees F.
Even at 103 degrees F, I was comfortable in long pants and long sleeved shirt
because of the dry heat. The evening are somewhat cooler --just perfect for the
clubs two saunas. They have an onsite SPA and the Massage is great. The best
conversations develop in the evening in the saunas -- and the guest list is
often international.
Age range this trip was probably between 30-65.
Most were couples. Everything about Desert Shadows is upscale. But the price
for the quality of accomodations and service is quite reasonable. Its a place
that is comfortable for the occasional naturist or the serious naturist -- the
pace is laid back and the people are friendly. If you have experienced clothing
optional beaches or naturism in places throughout the US but have never been to
Desert Shadows -- you'll really like the experience. After your first visit,
you'll wonder why you went anywhere else.
We're from Ohio and plan to
make one to two visits per year to Desert Shadows from now on. We have been to
the carribbean resorts and this is every bit as nice !! Ontario CA airport is
about 1 hour drive and Palm Springs has an airport approximately 10 minutes
from Desert Shadows. Like usual , we found it hard to leave. |

Desert Shadows - Room was lovely and clean;
shower has a window from which you can see an outdoor planter; pretty; you can
order a box lunch brought in to you at noon for a nominal fee. People who run
it are very nice young people; also had a great massage while
there! |

During 1998 my wife and I visited Desert
Shadows, Terra Cotta, Morningside and we tried to book at Mira Loma but at the
time we called they were only having "regular" season (meaning non-nude.) We
live in Southern California and visit Palm Springs often, so we have tried all
the resorts.
The first we visited was Desert Shadows. The resort was in
the city, very close to downtown Palm Springs so it was very convenient for
shopping, etc.
The facility was first rate. Tennis Courts, pool,
restaurant on the premises, very large courtyard and very nice rooms. The only
quibble we had was that they are not "clothing optional" but are hardcore
nudists. The weekend we visited my wife had just started her period and
preferred to wear a thong and of course, go topless. This was unacceptable to
management who would not let us lay out in the main courtyard or by the pool.
They did have a very small 2nd courtyard which I had to carry lounge chairs to
myself where they said my wife could lay out in a thong. Because of this, we
couldn't participate in any of the sports, activities, or social aspect of the
resort. We have not gone back. It's a shame because the resort is very nice but
the owners made us feel like outcasts. If sports and activities are what you
are looking for Desert Shadows is your best choice in Palm Springs.
Morningside is a much better choice for friendliness, ambiance, and
social interaction. It is smaller and has the feel of a hotel from the 1950's
where you would have expected the Hollywood stars to hang out. Nice people is
the hallmark of Morningside. The owners make you feel right at home. Every time
we go we have met at least one other couple that we have become friends with
and stayed in touch with. The resort is clothing "optional" although you'll
rarely see anyone there with anything on. The rooms are older, but clean and
nice with TV and VCR in the rooms. Many have kitchens with microwaves,
refrigerators, dishes, etc.
The rooms surround the courtyard with the
pool which is the main gathering place during the day. In the morning and at
lunch the owners prepare breakfast (bagels & cream cheese, fruit, hard
boiled eggs, juices, etc.) and lunch (hot dogs, burgers, wine, chips &
salsa, etc.) These meals are included and are eaten at tables for four that are
under the shaded patio cover or by the pool if you like. As I said, the
ambiance is great at Morningside. Morningside is walking distance to Downtown
Palm Springs. If you want to unwind and have the most relaxing vacation of your
life but still have the action of downtown Palm Springs only a 5 minute walk
away, this is a great choice.
Terra Cotta is also very nice, right up
there with Morningside. Among our friends these two resorts are the about
equally liked by nearly everyone. Terra Cotta is similar in amenities and
ambiance, so rather than repeat it all, suffice it to say you can't go wrong at
either place.
